Where did Chai originate from?
The history of Chai dates back around 5000 to 9000 years ago in an ancient royal court in India. The Ruler at the time had invented the recipe as an Ayurvedic beverage with healing properties. Over the years Chai was prepared with a range of spices as a remedy for the common cold and other ailments but did not use black tea till around the 1830's.
Tea became highly popular in India around the 1900's mostly due to the tea plantations set up by the British East India company back in 1835 to reduce the Chinese monopoly on tea supply to Great Britain.
We made a list of the best tea/chai you can find in the city. All these chai places are on TravellerPass as well, which means you get more for less.
